Chain | Cohn | Clark Hosts Community Blood Drive in Honor of Local Attorney

The Law Office of Chain | Cohn | Clark hosted a blood drive on Wednesday, Aug. 14, in partnership with Houchin Community Blood Bank in honor of former partner and attorney Jim Yoro, who is battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Houchin collected 37 units of blood in total, marking one of the biggest mobile drives in recent years, said Houchin coordinator Anthony Salcido-Noriega. One unit of blood can save up to three lives, according to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Donors included law firm employees, clients, and community members.

“Jim must be an amazing person,” he said. “People love him.”

Yoro retired at the end of 2023 after working more than 40 years as an attorney with Chain | Cohn | Clark, and shortly after began experiencing health issues. He was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, and as part of his treatment received several blood transfusions. He and his family wished to hold a blood drive to raise awareness of blood shortages locally.

“Jim, like all of us at Chain | Cohn | Clark, has deep ties to our community. I would expect nothing less from him than to be thinking about our community’s needs while he is battling cancer,” said Matt Clark, law firm managing partner. “We are honored to partner with Houchin Community Blood Bank and donate blood in honor of Jim.”

Yoro managed the firm’s workers’ compensation practice and became one of the most veteran and most respected workers’ compensation lawyers in the Central Valley. He served as president of Kern County Bar Association, as chairman of the board for Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance and was a member of the board of directors for Kern Regional Center, in addition to other community work. He continues to serve as “of counsel” for Chain | Cohn | Clark.

The Yoro family thanks everyone who donated, attempted to donated, helped organize, and supported.

“We are so touched by all this love,” said Jim’s wife Rev Yoro. “Thank you all.”

Blood donors received a voucher for 15% off at Butcher Block and entered to win a Blackstone Grill with 30-piece accessory set, as well as a guitar signed by Taylor Swift.
