The plaintiff had been working for AES Drilling Fluids, working on a drilling site at a lease owned by Permian Resources in Midland, Texas. Sean was working on a drilling site — drilling by Helmerich & Payne had been ongoing. As the plaintiff was walking back from the rig to his office along a lit roadway during a night shift, a forklift operated by a Helmerich & Payne employee ran him over, resulting in amputations to both legs. He also suffered blood clots in the lungs and around the heart, and internal bleeding.
